Venous Insufficiency Screening

The veins in your legs carry blood back to the heart with the help of one-way valves. When these valves become weak or damaged, blood can flow backward and collect in the veins. This condition, known as chronic venous insufficiency, may contribute to leg heaviness, aching, swelling, varicose veins, skin changes, and discomfort. A venous ultrasound evaluates blood flow and valve function to help identify venous insufficiency that may require medical follow-up.

Did You Know?

Approximately 25% of Adults Are Affected
Varicose veins affect about one in four adults and are often associated with venous insufficiency.

Women Are More Commonly Affected
Pregnancy, hormonal changes, and family history can increase the risk of developing venous insufficiency

.

Symptoms Often Worsen Over Time
Without treatment, venous insufficiency may gradually progress and lead to increased swelling, skin discoloration, or venous ulcers.

Ultrasound Is the Gold Standard
Venous ultrasound is the preferred, non-invasive test for evaluating vein valve function and identifying venous reflux.

What This Screening Evaluates

A venous ultrasound uses sound waves to evaluate the superficial veins of the legs, assess valve function, and detect venous reflux. It can identify abnormal backward blood flow, enlarged veins, and other findings that may require further medical evaluation.
